Just wanted to let you all know that Whitwick Historical Group have just published a book called Ale House in Whitwick which contains the history and details of pubs in Whitwick.

I have to admit that I have an added interest in this book - as not only are my ancestors mentioned but I [wait for it] am mentioned in the acknowledgments!!!!

Seriously, the book looks great! [not looked in too much details as it is to be a father's day present for my dad and want to keep it pristine!] so have only had a quick flick through.

If any of you have ancestors who owned/ran a pub in Whitwick - this is well worth a look. I have added a link to the website [below]

Thanks for that. I have an ancester born Whitwick so will have a look. I haven't managed to find out much about Whitwick so far.
Are those flowers camellias? I used to have a small camellia tree that colour that flowered for months. When we sold our house the next tenant pulled it out.

I was told by an archivist at the Leicester archives that the reason Whitwick had so many pubs was because it was full of Irish imigrant workers for the railway. Dont know whether this is true or not. Have a look at the links below.

ps/ No - the flowers are Freesias - one of my favourite flowers - beautiful colour arent they!
