Has anyone any experience of researching RC parish records at the national library in Dublin or civil records at the Irish GRO in Dublin? I've looked on their websites at what they have available and their opening times. I'm planning a visit next month as part of a holiday in Eire and want to make sure I use the time as effectively as possible. |

We visited a few years back and did eventually find a marriage record at the National Library on microfiche, but that was after several hours of searching. |

Thanks Joy and Gina. I've done as much as I can on-line I think, unless Ancestry has more available on a world wide membership (I only have the basic). My grandfather was John Lynch, not an uncommon name unfortunately. I know the date of his death in 1941, and that he was living as a single man with his mother in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. My mother was born in Nov 1917 and had an older brother, so his marriage is probably in a window of about 5 years but I haven't been able to pin it down. There is one possible birth that comes up with the mother's name as Mary, but if I look for his father's name there are no records matching on IGI, IFHF or ancestry. |
