Sorry for the corny title, another conundrum here. Yesterday my Mum called me to say her great grandmother's (Charlotte Bowcock) birth cert. had arrived (1855, Manchester) and that Charlotte's mother's maiden name was given as Ann Bird. Father was James Bowcock.
I did the logical thing and searched for a marriage between James Bowcock and Ann Bird but nothing has turned up for me so far,
Can anyone please help me find it? No sign of little Charlotte in either the 1861 or 1871 censuses. Most odd....thanks for any help..

It's all FANTASTICALLY helpful, thank you all so much!
Ann, I don't understand those last marriage refs you just gave, are those two separate marriages by James, or is it showing Ann Bird and Ann Done are one and the same?

yes it is showing that they are one and the same
they have the same reference number and lancs bmd shows both names where the certificate would have said ' Ann Done widow formerly Bird' (or similar wording). the fathers surname on the register would also be different to the brides surname
the entry on lancs bmd is marked with *
