Hi everyone,
thanks again to you all, Ruth the mother of the Self brothers was living at Norfolk Villas, Hampden Park, Eastbourne living on own means (husband John had died in 1894) on the 1911 Census so it looks as if they owned that property although cannot find a Will.
Ruth died in 1914 in Suffolk looks like I need a trip to Eastbourne to look at electoral register.

If you look up the ship's manifest for 1907 on the Ellis Island website, Albert Self is a designer going to Philadelphia. His mother stayed in Hampden?? Park, Eastbourne. He was stamped as a Non Immigrant Alien. He's an engraver in 1894.

Hi Jonesey,
thanks for your very quick replies Albert Self emigrating in 1907 seems right as it mentiions Eastbourne, have found his wife's Probate records on Ancestry so can now get the complete Will and look for the Durrant familiy which may be back in the UK..
If Frederick was a musician then think the attorney entry is not correct, still not sure whether he went to USA in 1892 or 1894, at least you have given me some information to carry on with my search.
If you find anything further please let me know, will be out for the next few hours so please don't think I am rude if I do not reply immediately.
regards,
Lesley

I have a subscription to Ancestry but not worldwide
Frederick Augustus Self 1859 left on 25 Aug 1897 for New York returned 31 July 1910 Attorney, brother Albert E 1871 disappeared after 1891 Census. returned to England from N York Aug 1924 and went back in Nov 1824 Representative. think Charles John born 1867 might also have gone.
Any trace of them in the USA or on boat trips would be gratefully received
Thanks
