hi,
I know some of my ancestors spent some time here. Is there a way of seeing lists of children who were there without having to visit a records office? It was after 1911 so the census is of no use, I have googled but can't really find anything???

Any information would be great, even just about the orphanage.

where is or was this orphanage?

I'm not quite sure what you googled, but there seem to be two main contenders - one in Hornsey London and the other in Surrey. The former has records in the National Archives and there is quite a lot about the other on www.exploringsurreyspast.org.uk

Sorry for delay, was getting kiddies in bed. Its the one in london I'm looking into. So does that mean the natinal archives?

Time Line History of Royal Alexandra and Albert School
The history of what is now The Royal Alexandra and Albert School (RAAS) is an inspiring story of two separate charities, each dedicated to caring for and educating orphans or other infants and children in great need, run on almost identical lines, eventually coming together, nearly sixty years ago, to become the unique community that is RAAS today.

The Orphan Working School, established in 1758, eventually became the Royal Alexandra School. The Royal Albert Orphan Asylum, founded in 1864, became the Royal Albert School.

The Charities have enjoyed extensive Royal Patronage and interest for over one hundred and fifty years. Her Majesty the Queen is Patron of RAAS and the School's President is Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester.

Over two hundred and fifty years the Schools have supported more than twenty thousand necessitous children; those who we are proud now to call Foundationers. There are currently fifty Foundationers in the School.

The following Time Lines highlight some of the significant events in the history.

I am very confused??? He would have been there sometime after 1903. One great aunt says he was there but the other has now said he was at the southern railway orphanage! Families! I hate having to go on stories rather than evidence!

The Southern Railway Orphanage is/was in Woking, Surrey and if you google it there are lots of entries with photos and quite a lot of archive film. The info about the first bit of film gives the names of the children taking part.

I would not expect him to be there ,though, unless his father worked for The Southern Railway.
