My grandfather enlisted in the 6th D.G. in April 1901 and left in 1913. He rejoint in August 1914 until 1919.I can find a full history for the W.W,1 period but virtually nothing for the period 1901-1913.I have just paid a visit to the Royal Scotts Dragoon Guards museum in Edinburgh Castle but no one there was any help. The 6th D.G.were amalgamated out of existance in 1923 so any help or pointers would be most helpfull and save me any more 700 mile round trips. Thanks folks. |

Findmypast have military records up until 1913. Just noticed I have some credits that are due to expire, so if you post some details I will look for you. |

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The 6th D.G. amalgamated with the 3rd D.G. in 1920 and were made part of the prince of Wales regiment in 1923. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards use the title "The Caribineers" but when asked for information I was told "Oh, they where a Welsh regiment",not much use at all. In fact they where at one time the 9th Irish Horse. I shall carry on looking .Thanks again. |

Thanks again folks. My grandfathers name was Robert Logan Wyeth and he was born at Fort Newhaven in 1883.It would seem that Kew must be my next port of call. |

Surviving service papers for this period are now online so no real point going to Kew! They will be on Ancestry or FindMyPast. |
