Anyone any idea of how to locate a burial plot? I've written to the church concerned with no avail, searched online grave locations etc. short of trailing round the grave yard looking (and even then I suspect unmarked graves as died in workhouse), What can I do?

You will need the burial parish registers even if there isnt a headstone it will be recorded,depending on the era these are held at a local history centre,record office/archives and many local family history groups have transcripts on fiche or have recorded them to some media.

I asked at the 'deaths/burials'department at the local registry office.
I received burial plot details for a gg grandmother and a grandfather's first wife.
I found grand dad's first wife's plot-but someone else was buried there!!

Apparently, from the1960's, this particular burial ground had a time limit of 30 years, then the plot was re-used.
I was quite upset, as grandad (a docker) had scrimped & saved to buy her headstone, and green glass for the top of the grave. He speaks of it in letters to my grandmother, a friend of his first wife, and (obviously) his second wife!!

I've been quite successful in e mailing the councils concerned ( the cemeteries dept) Waltham forest council and the city of london cemtery were really helpful,

I just gave the name, date of death (or quarter if I didn't know exact date) address and anything else useful and they got back to me almost straight away with plot numbers, copies of the register, maps, date appears in book of remembrance etc etc
