David,
Dont know if you are handy for visiting either Edinburgh Records Office or the Mitchell Library in Glasgow who now house the Records Office where you can access SP at a cost of £14 for a days search each time you print a record its 50p I find if like yourself I have to look at lots of records its cheaper to visit them than to use lots of credits

Hi,thank you all for your interest in my search for the hotel on the 1911 census.
The 1901 census had the hotel in enumeration book 5 .Pge.16 Sch.108
so as the 1911 census was supposed to follow as much as possible the same layout i thought i would search this district.
without a definate name i had to trial some common names to find one in this enum.district.at a cost of one unit per name.
when i found a name i then paid for the image(5 units)this giving me in this case page 8 of this book. You could then look for free at the header images.ie description page, summary of pages etc,in this case a total of 10 pages.
Where it becomes even more expensive is you have paid for page 8 but if you want to look at page 1 for instance you have go back a page at a time (5 units a page ) until you get there.
Frustrating when you arrive at your page and you find your hunch was wrong after all !!!
Be interesting to hear views from others who are searching the 1911 census.

Hi Cathy,
Never thought it may be different for English/Scottish!

I don't think it works for the Scottish 1911 Census Linda, as it does for the England/Wales census. Unless I'm missing something....which I frequently do :-))

Kind regards,

Cathy

Dennis,
As I PMd you see the tip from Jonesy below on the tips board which I nudged up for you "Address searching the Census"
re street maps etc you would need to find out the local library and ask who if anyone keeps these again you can phone the local council and ask which library to contact
good luck

Dennis I cannot find anything relating to street maps trade directories etc...Dont know how the 1911 Census can be "manipulated " but can you just put a "random name" in and trawl through ?... Have you tried Innes without "Charlie"....The only other thing is the Registery of Deeds ...assuming he sold the Hotel on.....

Many thanks. I have tried Charles Innes on 1901 and 1911 Census and nothing comes up there.

\hi Dennis,
Have you tried Google or perhaps if you contact the local council they can tell you where to find the info you need.
Also the local library may have old Post Office Directories or even voters rolls or valuation rolls. Hope this helps

Hi, have bought credits for the census but can only do a name search.
My problem is the people living there on the 1901 census appear to have moved on so i have no idea who the new people are.
Has anyone access to a street directory for 1911 or slightly later so i can input a name.
Any other thoughts on how to tackle this one would be very much appreciated,
