Hi, can anyone help? I have an ancestor Daniel Davie born around 1846 but on the Scottish 1881 Census it shows him born in France as a British subject. Does anyone have any idea where I can get his birth record? I can't seem to shed any light as to why he was in France either? |

Might he actually be French? 1891 implies a naturalised British subject: |

Thanks Guys, I think his mother moved over to France for a time and then moved back to Dundee according to the Census. I'm maybe being a bit stupid but does Nat France as a british subject mean that I may be able to find his birth record in France or the UK? |

Not sure - I am supposing it might mean Britisih born then naturalised French citizen or the reverse! |

Thanks BrummieJan I do have this but it's a mystery as to why both he and his sister were born in France, It does look like his mother has come back to Dundee. |
