Death Certificates from Australia

I was looking for my cousin's father (from the UK) who "jumped ship" in Australia, in a previous post on GR. I have now been able to find this person. A big thank you to everybody who helped me.

I have found the person I was looking for in the NSW Registery of Births, Marriages and Deaths and what I need to know now is how do I obtain the Death Certificate from Australia bearing in mind that I live in the UK, and also how would I pay for it ??? I realise that the Australian dollar is a different value to our money here in Britain.

Has anyone from the UK had any experience of doing this ?

I decided to send for a transcription, which is cheaper than an actual certificate, and has the same information, from here:

I had found the Transcription Agent through rootschat site. The transcription came by email as an attachment and cost $16.36.
I am in the UK and paid by debit card through the agent's site.

Edited - I have just checked my bank statement online, and the amount came to £10.29; also taken was Non-UK commission fee of £0.20.

Great ! ! ! ! Many thanks for this. I will do like you did and get the information from this site.

I have heard somewhere that they need a lot of proof of who you are before they send you the actual cerificates - I dont know if this is true or not but what's the point of doing that if you can get a translation.

Hi Ann .......... the NSW/BMD is on-line .....deaths go up to 1980...so no trouble ........but would help to find the 'reg.no' from there ....to give Joy Murrin as per Mel's advice)

I have been on the NSW/BMD web site and have found the "reg no" so I think I'm ok to get a transcription.
