Hello Dee and Janice,

Have just read you replies. Thank you once again for the useful information which we are eager to put into practise! We never thought to contact Swindon library, etc. For a while now we feel as though we had come to a dead end, but due to your helpfulness and intrest my father is now extremely hopeful! Planning to contact Swindon Library tomorrow. Mitchell Library in Glasgow should be able to help with the Navy Records.
Will keep you both posted. Contacted Margo Henry and there was no connection. My father is meeting a case worker at The Scottish Adoption Services in Glasgow on Tuesday, so we will pass any info onto her.

Thank you
Nicky.

If you do a search for James Henry on this site, there's someone called Margo Henry who has James in her tree born the same year that you listed. Have you contacted her at all?

Another random thought!

As your father is Stephen's son, I think he would be entitled to apply for his Navy information/papers.

I've never done anything like this so don't know, but it would be worth investigating.

Good idea Janice, it would be probably cheaper than ordering certificates. and sometimes they do it for free. Or maybe a telephone call to them??

Would it be worth e-mailing Swindon library to see if they have the electoral registers? You could see who was at that address in 1964.
Or put a request on Record Offices Board to see if anyone lives in Swindon who would be willing to look it up for you.

What a quick response! Thank you everyone from my father and I. Will post further as we discover more.

Kind regards
Nicky

Hello Dee.

Cant thank you enough! We are not sure what to do next. Maybe our local registrars will be able to locate the death certificate for Richard and we can find out his mothers name. We beleive R Henry was born in Ireland or Scotland as Stephen Henry listed Londonderry as his residence in marriage certificate dated 1945. The we may be able to find other relatives, eg my cousins etc. Mt father thought he was an only child but now we know differently! Have left varies messages on Bute Sons and Daughters, Glasgow Boards, Missingyou.net. No luck im afraid. Please keep in touch and we will keep you updated regarding our search.

Nicky.

Nicola,

You use Scotlands People??? If not you need to register or ask for a look up;

I think there is a marriage in 1954 for Richard Edward Henry..... I have no credits and have just done a free search.

Hi Nicola,

I only came across this one;

England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005
about Richard Edward Henry
Name: Richard Edward Henry
Birth Date: 5 Dec 1929
Death Registration Month/Year: 1971
Registration district: Chippenham
Inferred County: Wiltshire
Volume: 7c
Page: 1815

I can't see a birth in England or Wales for this chap, so he could have been born in Scotland or Ireland??

Hello Dee. Many thanks for replying. Stephen Henry died in 1964 aged 41. On his death certificate, the following information was listed; Stephen Henry age 41, married to Annie McIntosh Tiernan, died September Twentyseventh. Found dead, last seen September Twentysixth @ 34 Glover Street Leith. Occupation Railway Parcel Porter. He died of heart problems. His brother R Henry signed thye death certificate on September 29th at Leith. Stephen married Annie in Dunoon 1945 and on the marriage certificate he stated he was a canteen worker in the Royal Navy. His address was listed as 5 Princess Street, Londonderry, parents, William John Henry and Martha O Brien but on Stephens death certificate she was nee Fisher! Both his parents. My father was named Ronald Henry at birth but name changed to David MacSween in 1948. We have discovered Annies birth certificate, marriage to and birth certificates for 3 baby girls and a boy James Henry all born in Glasgow adopted after birth except James. Annie moved a lot. Know her grandparents names and parents. We have never meet any of my fathers relatives. So we are struggling a little as what do to. Annie had a girl in Glasgow 1952 named Jeanette Murray Henry adopted to England. Wonder if R Henry became her adoptive father? Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello. My father was born in Rothesay 1947 to Stephen and Annie Henry. Named Ronald at birth and adopted. Stephen died in Leith Scotland 1964. On his death certificate his brother R Henry of 56 Cutchbrook Road, Lower Stratton, Swindon, Wiltshire was named. Does anybody know of him or have him mentioned in their family trees? We have never met any of my fathers birth relatives and are desperately tring to trace them. Not much information I know! Any suggestions please. Thank you.
