I found that three of my grandfathers cousins emegrated to the States, one in 1911 and the other two after the 1st world war. I have found the ship/date etc that they sailed on and I also found them on two USA census.

I have also found info on two of their children who served in the USA army during the 2nd world war. I wrote to the addresses given on their call up papers, in the "hope" that, if they were not there, someone would know them. Of the three letters I sent, only one replied, but sadly, he was not related.

Their names were....James Mawdsley born 1915, and Richard Mawdsley 1918, Margaret and Doris, 1923, William 1924 and George 1928. All these children were born in the States. The families originated in the Liverpool/Bootle areas.

Where can I go now pleeeezzz.!!!!...I have tyo go off line now until this afternoon but I will be back later.

I had a similar problem a few years ago I went online googled the last known area for local newspapers, e-mailed one of them asking if they would put an aticle in for me searching for my family ,they did and I was lucky I am now in contact with a second cousin , its worth a go .

You could start off having a google using their names and a couple of the details you know. Google is an amazing tool.

If you have ww Ancestry, you could try looking for obituaries.

That may give you some details of where the children were living and possible married names for the girls.

There is also the online directory you could try

SHREWSBURY Richard A. Mawdsley, 90, of 35 Julio Dr., died Wednesday, February 18 at his residence.

His wife, Helen A. (Dean) Mawdsley died in 1992. He leaves a daughter, Roberta H. Mawdsley of Worcester and a brother, Herbert T. Mawdsley also of Worcester, many nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of William and Jemima (Porter) Mawdsley and was a lifelong Shrewsbury resident. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1938. He was a WW II Navy Veteran and operated in the Pacific theatre serving on the destroyer escort Edward C. Daly.

Mr. Mawdsley was a self-employed Painting & Decorating Contractor.

He was a member of Wellspring United Methodist Church, Charter member and past President of Shrewsbury Kiwanis Club, member of Shrewsbury American Legion Ray Stone Post and held a past private pilots license.

The funeral service will be held Monday, February 23 at 11 A.M. in Howard C. Allen Funeral Home, 653 Main St. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Aug 27, 2009 WORCESTER Herbert T. Mawdsley, 88, of 25 Acushnet Ave., died Sunday, August 23, in Saint Vincent Hospital after a long and courageous battle with Leukemia.

He leaves his wife, Ellen T. (Foley) Mawdsley; two sons, Herbert T. Mawdsley, Jr. of Shrewsbury and Richard Mawdsley of Worcester; a sister, Elizabeth Wade of N. Brookfield; nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren. He was a WWII Navy veteran.

Mr. Mawdsley was a machinist at Vellumoid Co. in Worcester for almost 40 years retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Wellspring United Methodist Church.

Services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wellspring United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 35, Shrewsbury, MA 01545. Howard C. Allen Funeral Home, 653 Main St., Shrewsbury is handling arrangements.

There is also an address for the daughter named in the 1st obit.

Although they have, as necessary, been listed as part of an historical newspaper obit, I'm not singling them out again.
