You mention that you found James on Ancestry for WWI records but how did you work out which one her was - I'm looking at National archives at the moment.

Maybe a day off in order to go to the archives and check things out. :)

Check with your local library - they may have Ancestry library edition. Not sure if that gives access to the Military records, but no harm in asking.

I don't have Ancestry unfortunately but I plan a trip to the archives soon so I'll check that out.

Margaret and Christian are both family names so I'm guessing it's the right family.

Gypsy Joe, I have just found James WW1 record on Ancestry? Do you have access? It looks as if James had served in Army before.

The only child mentioned is Margaret Christian b 26/5/1913, POB is very faint but it looks like Edinburgh.

I think the only way is to buy the cert

I found another Douglas born in 1928 which might be the right one but any idea how I'd find out withought ordering the cert? This one was born in Edinburgh and his middle name is Stuart the same as his father's so I'm guessing it's a match.

The Douglas coming up was born in Aberdeen. Where did James and Elizabeth marry?

As far as I know they did. I know they had one son Douglas born in about 1921.

Though since the only way of checking that for sure would be to order the certificate and if it's the wrong one well then I'm out of pocket and that's something I can't afford at the moment. Especially at £10 per cert.

James was a Grocers assistant in 1912.

I do hope somone can lead me in the right direction.

I have a Scottish couple whom married in 1912.

Elizabeth Sommerville to James Maxwell. I have a copy of their marriage entry from Scotlands people but what I want to try and find out is what children they had.

Can anyone please advise me on how or where I could possible find this out.
