If it was before 1927, there will probably be no documentation .... legal adoptions did not come in until that year. |

I have found quite a few new members of my family on Genes, the person in question doesn't appear on any tree although I remember him well. It made me wonder if he was adopted. I know I could ask, but it's like I don;t know if I want to know. I just thought of him as dad's brother 'til I started to look deeper. |

Who knows? Obvious thing is to look for the registration of his birth. Might have been a result of being orpaned. If it's a while back (that is, he is no longer living) and you are stuck post details and we'll have a look. |

In my search to trace my family, I have come across a child who was "taken in" by his relations. Would this child's birth have been documented in the usual manner, or would it have been covered up as a family "secret"? |
