Alan, have you an older member of your family you could ask or are your Godparents or some of their descendents around?


If you know the address of where you were living at the time of the afternoon tea episode, then google for the nearest church. Is it likely to be C of E.....RC......or maybe Methodist?


Jan, simply google the name of the church and contact them by email - they should be able to send you a copy of your Baptism certificate for a small charge.

You might like to try the archives in Walthamstow. They should be able to locate the parish registers for the local churches. I've found them very helpful in the past.

It would probably be a combined Services church where you were Christened, if it was Germany and my guess would be the military base at Rheindahlen.
I believe there are at least 3 churches on the base, - different denominations, so the record is likely to be in one of the set of records.

I think it is / was not uncommon for a child's Christening to be postponed until a Service family are settled.
I know someone born in Hampshire in 1951, but christened in Germany the following Spring. In a different family a child born in Cyprus was Christened in England.

My parents couldn't remember which church or the date I was baptised, but they knew that the 'do' afterwards was at grandma's, which was a clue. I googled curches in the area. I sent an e.mail to each to ask if they could 'look me up'.
One of them wrote back asking for my postal address - and sent me a copy of my baptism cert. All for nothing!!

Have you looked on familysearch site - not the online records, but their library or whatever it's called now. The listing of what films they have. You can hire the relevant film and view it at your local LDS church. No idea what year the records go to but worth a thought if you can narrow down the likely church.
