Haven't got much further with Sarah & George Hargreaves, I did send for the marriage cert. the marriage was in the Register Office, and doesn't give any addresses only Brierley, George was a widower, and the Regstrar states "by certificate before me" would that be by special licence? It looks as if the Registrar's wife was a witness as they have the same surname (Patrick) |

I thought it must have been myself who sent the correction but I've got Find my past, so that's interesting if someone else is looking at the Whitleys... |

There is a death for George Hargreaves aged 30 in 1869 & the district is Wakefield (I always thought of Hemsworth as Doncaster) so that's a possibility. |

In 1891 she's with her widowed father Joseph & sister Amy Cass & family in French Gate, and described as Married, in 1901 she's living with Amy & family and described as a widow. |

Better start going through the deaths...before ordering any more certs. That should put some light on it as he must have been quite young. The only thing I can't understand why they got married at Hemsworth or perhaps that's where he lived. |

Presumably this is the possible marriage which should confirm if she did marry George |

Is that what that squiggel is! Think it must be her, as the others are all at home in 1871. It's the same age and with her being blind. I don't think she was born blind but could have been. |

Sarah Ann's brother Robert is my great Grandfather, in 1881 she was living with her parents & described as blind, I have now discovered in 1871 she was in Doncaster Union Workhouse. In the census for 1891 she's described as "widow", the others as "married". How do I find out if she was widowed between 1861 (I can't find any records for the Whitley family for this year) and 1871 and how she went blind? The name is spelt Hardgraves in 1891. I found a George Hargreaves who may have been the husband, |
