A tree on Ancestry has Gertrude Alice Cousins married to Ralph King in 1909 but no more info other than her birth 17 Feb. 1888, Grimsby, daughter of Joseph Cousins & Sarah Elizabeth Moore.

Thanks Dee for all that information. All a bit confusing will get back to you when I have attempted to sort it out.

Any chance of finding his trip to Uk in 1953 - I don't think he would have flown over back then and I can't find him on any passenger list for that time.

Hi Jean,

still cannot see them coming back into the UK around 1953....... just looking about though and found this;

This is Isabella's brothers death;

Kentucky Death Records, 1852-1953 about Keith Falkner Grant

Now I can't see Johanna Anderson Grant with the family in 1900 (1890 census was destroyed) by the 1900 census Isabella wasn't with the family and the mother is widowed..... the family just go by intials)

I'm now wondering if Johannah Anderson Grant was a cousin to Isabella falconer Grant , as it seems that the above family always carried the falconer name.......... so it would be very odd to have a child carrying the name of Anderson????

Here's the 1880 census with the above family and also a brother to the head.......... think this maybe the way forward to find Johanna??

Then there's this baptism in Quebec of Violet Falconer Grant. It's en francais so I have to translate,
Daughter of Thomas Alexander Grant and Jane Falconer.
Born 24 Nov. 1902, Edinburgh, Scotland.
Baptised 25 Oct. 1928.

(Being baptised in the Catholic Church because she was going to marry a Catholic?)

I am still trying to get my head round all this information. A few points of interest:

1 According to British shipping records of 1910 Ralph SJ King was single and a labourer when he left Liverpool.

2 According to Canadian passenger lists of 1910 Ralph King was a joiner and marrried when he arrived in Montreal - so do we have two Ralph kings going to Canada in 1910 or is it the same one.

3 The marriage to Gertrude Cousins in 1909 - is it my great uncle Ralph or the other Ralph King. I think I must get a copy of the marriage certificate to check - could take quite a while.

4 If he was married ot Gertrude did he return to England in 1923 in the June to get a divorce so he could then marry Johanna Grant in september 1923.

5 Interesting find on the 1911 Englsih census of Gertrude King and son with mother Sarah. I also found Gertrude with her mother on the 1891 census living in Clee in Grimbsy which is where she got married.

6 It only we could find his trip to England in 1953 with his wife as her details would be on a passenger list.

Thanks for all the information but still lots to resolve.

Another new find a divorce in 1913 between Ralph King and Gertrude King, corespondent George Holmes ( found in the National Archives Divorce Records).

I wonder if the child, Charles Brown King, on the 1911 census, is the son of George Holmes and not Ralph Kings - he was born in Mar 1910 and Ralph went to Canada in July 1910 so could be either.

Why did Ralph go to Canada so soon after the child was born - to find work or because he found out that his wife was having an affair.

I really will have to get a copy of the marriage cert between Ralph and Gertrude just to make sure it is the right Ralph.

UPDATE ON RALPH KING

I now have the marriage cert for Ralph King and Gertrude Cousins in Clee, Lincs in February 1909. This is my great uncle as the address and father's name match. A son Charles Brown is born in March 1910 and then Ralph goes to Canada in July 1910 leaving his wife and son behind in England.

I then found a divorce between Ralph King and Gertrude Cousins in 1913 citing a George Holmes as co-respondent.

I did wonder if the son was not Ralph's but that of George Holmes but he has been named after Ralph's parents - Charles and Brown.

It would seem that the marriage found in 1923 between Ralph Sidney John King and Johanna Anderson Grant in Montreal is correct as his full name of RSJ King is also given on the 1901 English census and on the passenger list of the Tunisian in 1910.

It is strange that he returned to England for a visit in 1923 before his second marriage - could it have been to finalise the divorce of 1913?

I would now like to find out more about his second wife but not easy as there seem to be no details on the marriage cert. Margaret and Maureen have tried for me in Canada and I have tried in England but no success. I would guess that Johanna Anderson Grant would be of a similar age to Ralph (born c1887) so if anyone can find out anymore I would be most grateful. Unfortunately we don't know is she is English or Canadian.
