Hi Everyone I thought I would post my enquiry to see if someone can advise me as I'm stuck. I've been searching for the death (and birth) of John Briercliffe and because I don't know exactly when he was born I'm stuck. Is there anyway to find out how old he would have been when he married his wife Hannah BELFIELD who was born in 1806 Smallbridge Rochdale. I found one John who looked promising who was christened in 1802 in Manchester to James and Hannah Speakman but I will have to collate all the Johns that were born from earlier on as well. John doesn't appear on the 1841 Census, his wife is on the 1841 Census living with her daughter in Manchester and again in 1851 where she states that she is a widow. Can anyone suggest how I can find out how old/or when John Briercliffe/Britcliffe was born please. Their four children were Mary, James, Betty (Elizabeth) and Charlotte. Charlotte has disappeared too. Any suggestions gratefully received Kind Regards Dianna |

HI Everyone thanks for your help yes the above are all mine in Rochdale why there are two references to Wardleworth and Rochdale I'm not sure but the children were christened at St. Chad and I found James I think on the Online Parish Clerks from memory. I did find one John (spelt Briarcliff) being christened in 1802 in Manchester to James Briarcliff and Hannah Speakman. I thought this looked good as it wasn't too much older than his wife Hannah born in 1806 but because I can't find him on the 1841 Census and there is no age recorded on the marriage I'm stuck so can't move backwards or forwards. He was in Cheetham St. Rochdale when he married and there are other Britcliffes' there also one Sarah marrying Mr. Whitehead and she was living in Cheetham st. too, so I thought there maybe a connection so I started looking for Sarah's parents and siblings but could not find a John spelt either way so maybe not connection or a cousin maybe, just seems odd they were both married at St. Chad and living in the same st. I just don't know unless I can find someone that has the family bible or is related and has the whole tree there's not much more I can do but it's so nice having people trying to help me. Many thanks to all of you kind regards Dianna |

Cheetham Street is almost next door to St Mary's Church, Wardleworth. |
