Can anyone tell me how to track down a relatively recent will/probate?
I recently learned that a relative died in Bournemouth in 1978. Any idea of how to track down his will if it existed?

Hi Dave,

although it doesn't help you I go to the Probate Office in Holborn London and you search the records there, possibly you could contact them either by email, telephone or letter and see if they would look for you.

I am in Spain at the moment and may not go up there until say February or March next year but if you do not have any luck contact me directly and I will look for you when I do finally go.

Copies of Wills and Probate can be obtained by post from the address in York shown on the site. Cost is approximately £12

Log on to this site:

www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm

It will tell you exactly what to do to request a search to see if a will of your ancestor was proven. The cost for the search is £5 and if a will is found you will be sent a copy of the will for no additional cost.

This applies to wills proven from 1858 right up to the present day.

Researching:
Don't put off until tomorrow doing what you can do today. If you like doing it today you can do it again tomorrow. Be kind to your children for it is they who will decide which care home you end up in.

Thanks to all, especially to Leslie for his kind offer to do a lookup for me. It appears that my question has been answered. I'll follow the advice and hopefully it will lead me to the will I'm searching for.
