He wasn't in the RAF - He was in the RFA - Royal Field Artillery.

I'm afraid that was my fault, I mentioned the RAF earlier in the thread which may have confused things.

Thank you Piglets Pal and Inspector, I have a relative who served in the Air Flying Corps in WW1 so thank you for the tips.
