Help re Irish Death 1918

A relative before she died mentioned that her Scottish uncle may (or may not) have died in Ireland in 1918. It wasn't certain and the details were sketchy at best. I have no idea of the circumstances around his death. He was relatively young, perhaps only 18.

I was wondering whether anyone could give me any tips on how to go about finding out about his death (if it is possible)

you can search the Irish Civil Registration Index on familysearch here:

just scroll down to the Ireland records and then select the civil registration collection to search.

If you find what you are looking for, you can apply for the cert through here:

yep I believe it does. I am not sure if it is 100% complete though, I know not all of my irish line are on there, but it could be a case of mistranscription.

If it is not a too common name you may be in luck, however if it is a common Irish name, then it will be harder to single out.

Thanks Sib, it's not common as an Irish name (as they were Scottish) but no sign of him unfortunately. I'll recheck in the morning and check how complete it is.

Hello Eringobrah, sorry to take so long to reply, I hadn't realised anyone had replied since.

I did check the site Sib gave me and I couldn't find a death under that name. I didn't want to send anyone on a wild goose chase with so little information and it not being completely certain.

Unfortunately I can't find even the original letter/info that said he died in Ireland but it is definitely on my notes page on my family tree program that he possibly died there and I think I recall who gave me the info (I'll have to have another look) However, an old family tree chart done by a relative gives that year too so I'm hopefully on the right lines.
