Thanks for your help everyone - I've made a bit of a breakthrough. Don't know about other people but I would prefer to have tips rather someone do the finding for me - that's part of the fun! Nevertheless I'm grateful for your help and I know that some of you have access to sites I haven't - or not aware of. |

If you look at the 1901 census you will see that William is in Greenwich with his Uncle. That looks to be where he married |

Can anyone help please? I am trying to trace my maternal grandfather's family and have drawn a blank in respect of his brother. What I know from the 1891 census is that the family comprised father Richard Wood (aka Woods), mother Mary Wood nee Finch, oldest child Amelia Mary Woods (not Wood!), second child William Wood, and youngest child Henry Wood (my grandfather). I cannot find any birth record for William who according to the census would have been born in 1878 or 1879 in Burton-upon-Trent. I have tried searching under the name of Wood and Woods in both years and a year beyond each way just in case! I also cannot find his marriage record although I know from the 1911 census that he was married to Beatrice (maiden name unknown) and they had been married for 7 years at that point. They had no children at that stage. |
