Thank you for the advice Janey, I was referring to my tree, but I will definitely take your other advice and go and change that too. Many thanks |

Pam, if you're talking about your details in your account here at GR, the best advice is: do not put any part of your real name there. |

Thank you all for the replies, I wasn't aware of the inheritance law, but unfortunately I don't think that any of my relatives would have enough cash to leave to the enormous family I have anyway lol ! |

Your tree should have you and your mother and your mother should have two husbands. You can then research everyones ancestry. |

Even though you were legally adopted a record of your original birth registration will still exist. Whoever told you otherwise is mistaken. |

Thank you, that's what I have been doing, but I've since been told that I know longer exist on records for my birth name!!! It's rather confusing, but I guess I'll just carry on this way. |

I would record yourself by the name that is shown on your birth certificate. Although you were legally adopted later by your mothers 2nd husband, biologically or genealogically you have no connection to him. |

Hi, I hope that someone can give me some advice as I'm a little confused at what is the correct way to display both mine and my siblings surname. We were born as Whisken through my biological father Alfred, but he died in 1966. My mother then married again, and our stepfather then adopted us legally in court. Should I be showing my maiden name as my birth name or adopted one? Obviously I don't want to 'throw' anyone of the scent (so to speak) but I also want to continue searching my birth fathers' family. Any help gratefully appreciated. |
