I would think that he probably wasn't. I'm almost sure that if he was Teresa's husband's child from before the marriage then he would have taken on the Beale name.

I have now come the Library to acess Ancestry. It seems in 1891 William Henry Looms was living with his grandparents William and Maria Looms age 7. Whilst Teresa lived with Frederick Beale and thier family. But then is living with them in 1901. Would you agree this suggests William was not Frederick's son?

Thank you for that site Safc I will be sure to use that for future reference :)

Also thank you Kath for looking at the census image this has answered a lot of questions.

And a great thanks to both of you for all your help this really has helped solve a problem I otherwise would not have especially as I was looking at a completely different family

Thanks again Janette x

Ancestry is a much better place to search in my opinion.

I have just looked at the 1901 image again and after Thomas Beale and Teresa Beale it has William H. Looms (transcribed as William V. Looms) and then says son with the letter "I" next to it. This probably stands for illegitimate.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 1 Sep 2010 15:34

On Ancestry there are 7 William Looms on the 1901 census.

I'm pretty sure that the one with Thomas and Teresa is yours if he was born Warwickshire.

Are you searching the census on Genes?

Yes that is the William i found largly because i cant find any other William Looms on the 1901 census which is something that puzzles me slightly.

Janette

Janette Report 1 Sep 2010 15:30

He was definately born in Warwickshire. As it says so on the 1911 census by which time he was married to my great-grand mother the only time we can really be certain about him. His youngest daughter had also sugested he was born out of wedlock. Thank you ever so much for all your help both you and Safc.

If the William you are looking for was definitely born in Attleborough then I think he is the one born out of wedlock to Teresa Looms.

He is then on the 1901 census with his mother and her husband Thomas Beale, whom Teresa married just after having William.

The William you found living with William and Rebecca was born in Sapcote.

Goodness why did they name children after thier parents so much, it is making this very confusing!

Goodness this is very confusing it will take a while for me to get my head around this. Thankyou both for all your help :)

P.S Would that mean that William was born in wed lock? x

Is this his birth:-

Name: William Henry Looms
Year of Registration: 1884
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Nuneaton
County: Leicestershire, Warwickshire
Volume: 6d
Page: 482

Possibly his father's birth:-

Name: William Henry Looms
Year of Registration: 1849
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Nuneaton
County: Leicestershire, Warwickshire
Volume: 16
Page: 517

EDIT - after seeing the 1901 census I don't think William's father is William Henry Looms.
