Not specifically, but maybe it was 'Janey' and with an accent sounded like Ginny and that version stuck? . |

Just looked a name book and it said Virginia others also used Ginger,Jinny and Ginny |

My grandmother was Mary Jane. After starting down this genealogy path I came across a distant relative on GR who claimed to have known her as Aunt Ginny - something I had not heard before. |

Yeah this was in Newcastle in the 40's-50's. Thats great! Took me ages to track down the information as my grandfather had no information other than his mothers name and that he had a Aunt Ginny. |

Definitely a derivative of Jane - I have three Janes in my tree known as Ginnie. |
