Hello :) Can anyone offer me an informed opinion on why the father's name and surname box would be just struck across(as in not filled and just with a line through) on both the bride and grooms bit on an 1842 marriage cert. |

I've seen this from time-to-time, though quite a co-incidence that it is the case with both of them. Do you have them on 1841 census report? |

I would say that they're both illegitimate and don't know fathers' names. |

I can't find either of them for definate on the 1841 census. Its just too difficult with it stating only the county the person was born in :s There are no obvious choices thats for sure. Thats why I got the marriage cert really to give me more info but unfortunately its left me with more questions than answers!! :s |

The only other clues are any addresses and witnesses. Maybe if you post all info onto here folks can take a look. |

Sorry to ask the obvious, but are you 100% sure you have the same person? |

I'd be inclined to say both are illegitimate so can't give father's names. |

I received one recently for a marriage in 1861 which only had the words deceased for both fathers, no names. |
