i've discovered that my ancestor William Bensted was a Hoyman at Maidstone, Kent. This means he transported goods on his hoys, or sailing barges, on the Medway. I can find plenty of pictures of Thames barges but I'd really like to find a picture for my family history of a Medway Hoy from the mid 18th Century. Can anybody help? |
