I am looking for my grandfather Ernest edward ( or maybe edward ernest) Allison born 1886. I have found mother Mary Ann Allison born 1861 in Lewisham but although she was married no sign of her husband James (born 1861) or Ernest their son. James was in the merchant navy .I suspect he may have abandoned the family although family tradition say he was lost at sea. Can anyone find Ernest please? Thank you for any help. Alice |

I see Mary re-married about 1895 - if we believe her! |

Yes that is her - My dad remembers her and the family accepted her as being remarried. However I have since discovered that her father was a bigamist and I wonder if the 'lost at sea' story was just covering up her husband leaving the family ? I wondered whether Ernest may have been with her family ( Mother Elizabet Cox) or perhaps in a children's home.... |

In 1901 Ernest was a servant - butcher's boy I think in a shop not far from where his mother was living . |

I think that could well be James in 1891 - but I do not have him on any other census so it is difficut to be sure,,, |
