duplicate marriages/baptisms

In the late 1700s/early 1800s I have found several bapts or marriages which have taken place in small villages in West Cumberland, then appear to have been duplicated at St Michael,Workington. |

Not sure about the marriages but maybe the baptisms in two places were to please both sets of grandparents. They shouldn't really have bp'd twice but it did happen. |

If one of the bridal pair werent of the same parish then banns had to be published at both churches.People often got around this by trying to establish a six week residenecy in the same parish ie would take a suitcase to the brides home and then give the same address for residency |
