This looks a possibility in 1901 for the reg that Somerset Girl posted above...
1901 England Census about William King Name: William King Age: 7 Estimated birth year: abt 1894 Relation: Boarder Gender: Male Where born: Colchester, Essex, England Civil parish: Ixworth Ecclesiastical parish: St Mary Town: Ixworth County/Island: Suffolk Country: England Street Address:.....High Street
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:
Education:
Employment status: View image Registration district: Thingoe Sub-registration district: Ixworth ED, institution, or vessel: 12 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 62 Household Members: Name Age Henrietta Osborn 49...Head Married...Nurse (Domestic)...Rattlesden Edith Osborn 25...Daughter...Barton Mills...Suffolk William King 7...Boarder Eva Frost 2 ...Boarder
If the above is him, he is still with the Osbornes in 1911. I don't have a sub for the 1911 census, but these all appear to be in the same household, including a Hetty Eileen Josselyn. As Emma was living with the Josselyns in 1901 and 1911, it seems too much of a coincidence for this Thomas William King not to be her son.....

Thanks Choccy, that was my last known address for her in Colchester.
I presume that as a single mother in those days life must have been a bit rough as only one older member that is alive in the family can remember anything about Aunt Emma and it would be interesting to find out about any of her descendants.

Thanks Madmeg,
I am assuming that the T W is for Thomas William as there are a few scattered about the family, but as Somerset Girl has just found out Emma is still with the same family in 1911 so maybe she had her son prior to 1903?
I will try and compile a list of the TW Kings from about 1881 onwards. Strange you mcan't find her in 1881....I have completely lost her in 1891 !!

Thaks SG, thats the Emma.....at least I can now tie her down to 1911, still working for the same family as in 1901 but now moved from Colchester.
If she hasn't had her son yet time is getting on as she is now 44.
I don't have the complete set of solicitors letters and there is no address for T W King and the law firm has long gone out of business.

This could be difficult with only initials to go on. I am sort of assuming that T stands for Thomas, but it could be Timothy, but either way there are lots of them in the south of England.
I'd be tempted to find the solicitors to see who they paid the money to.
I can't see an Emma King born 1866 in Suffolk on the 1901 census.
You don't have to order from the GRO. If you can locate the register offices at which a T.W. King was registered, you can write to them and ask if the mother was Emma Lorna, unmarried, and if so to send you the certificate. If the mother doesn't fit, they won't charge you. I think the fee is now £9 plus an sae.

I suspect the dates are from 1902 to possibly 1912. He was an illegitemate child and suspect his mother will have moved away from her last address that I have for her in 1901.
From solicitors letters I have dated 1933 when his mother died
Emma Lorna King was born 1866 in Rattlesden Suffolk and died 1933 The letters refer to Mr T W King her illigitemate son as being the sole heir of her estate as she died intestate..
I am not after certificates just dates and names to continue the tree. Some of her familyt moved from Suffolk to London area and I am presuming perhaps incorrectly! that one of the T W Kings that are born down there may be the one I am looking for but without the mothers name I won't know!!

Do you have a rough idea of when he was born? to see the details you will have to order the cert from general records office for £9.25, unless he was born before 1921 and was baptised in london (some areas) you can get quite a few details from that If you just tell us all you know we can look for you

Thanks for the reply NinjaLady, I am trying to find the son of one of my ancestors, I am not sure exactly when he was born and only know his initials but know his mothers name. It is a case of working through the possible list of registration areas in the approx time scale I think he may have been born. For example ( T W King West Ham 4a-xxx ) but I need to see the mothers name on the record to confirm the sons name, so I am presuming that this must be done at the registrations record office and cannot be done online?

Are you wanting to purchase the certificates or look at the census records?
If you want to find them in the census post some details here and we can have a look for you.
If you want to buy certificates then you can order them online from the GRO.
Subscriptions from Ancestry or FindMyPast will give you access to census records, military records, etc and there are lots of free sites which can give access to parish records. Family Search have just added lots of new records, so no need to leave your armchair until you get to the stage where you have exhausted on-line records and need to go to the local Records Office.

I have the registration district and the entry numbers of certain relatives I wish to check on, but I presume from here I must travel to that registration area to look up the records?
