If he was in the Rifle Brigade you need to know which unit he was in really to find out more. You may be able to find this out from the Medal Roll which is at the National Archives, not online. Where he came from will probably not be relevant. Also, as has been suggested, his records, if they have survived will be on the Ancestry website. They won't appear in the National Archives Catalogue. |

Just for advice WW! service records are on Ancestry. not sure if you would have found any details on the N. Archives site, unless you actually went to kew. |

Searching (Kew) National Archives website for my grandfather's service record, WW1, I wasn't too surprised when I couldn't find any service records for him but was delighted to find two references to medals he had won. |
