William joseph Smith m Kezia Clements St John Bethnal Green 18/10/1845
Robert Smith m Louisa Davis St James the Great Bethnal Green 8/10/1874
I know what you are going to say next!! that is 37 years not 39 up to 1911
but if all these are the same Robert he doesnt seem to know where he was born let along know how long he had been married.
First child born 1875/6 maybe thats why he lied on census if it was early 1875

That Smith marriage to Louisa Davis , Maureen, I have looked at it on the London records....is this the right one Bethnal Green , father William Smith, Porter? if so I think I have them in 1871 and says Robert born Bethnal Green...

Yes, the one born Hackney Mar 1883 is the one i thought was mine.
As i said before, when i looked at Ancestry, the only other birth i could see with the parents of Louisa and Robert stated Cecillia Kezia born Lambeth. I knew this wasnt mine, they moved about a bit but not that far.
The census that i am looking at is 1901 and i thought it could be a K with a sort of leg on the front.
It is however very possible that the marriage you found is correct, right part of London.
many thanks for all your help

LOL I wouldn't have been surprised if he HAD been a brain surgeon lol

sorry Maureen another question lol how long had Robert and Louisa been married for on the 1911?

Maureen

Maureen Report 27 Mar 2010 17:33

sorry, 5 children, 4 still living 1911

Maureen

Maureen Report 27 Mar 2010 17:31

Rambling Rose
Yes he was working - a brain surgeon by then.!!
Seriously, he had graduated to doing decorating as well as painting by 1911, it states 4 children 1 died.
That works out,
Robert, Henry, Louisa and James my Grandfather who had flown the nest by 1851 - he was born 1876

Maureen the more I look at the image for 1901 the more I see it as Louisa R not K..the enumerator is quite consistent with his capital Rs lol

Maureen Report 27 Mar 2010 17:17

Thanks Somerset Girl
This could be her but according to Rambling Rose, Father is shown as mechanic for this marriage.
Robert and Louisa were living at 57 Aberfeldy Street minus all children by 1911, i knew it rang a bell somewhere.

Hi Maureen,
The problem you are having with typing on GR can perhaps be solved if you click on the compatability icon.
Next to the address bar on your screen is there an icon which looks like a page ripped in half?
If there is, click on it and it should solve your problem.

Let me know if that doesn't work please.

Kind regards,
Cathy

Maybe, after the replies i am getting on here people can understand why i am confused!!
Every census they seem to be living at a different address.
Robert changes his job like the weather also he cant make his mind up where he was born.
the only constant thing seems to be that Robert Smith married a Louisa Davis that came from Brentwood,( ive got mariage cert) i have wondered if i have got 2 families mixed up, but 2 Louisa Davis coming from Brentwood marrying a Robert Smith is a bit of a coincidence i think, especially for the size of Brentwood in those days
