Not sure if this is a new tip, I accidently found a register a 'Truant and Industrial school', may have been a sort of pre Borstal type of Institution. not only for kids in trouble but if found wandering on the streets or families too large for parents to cope. I found that my grandparents appeared in court for one of theirs for playing truant, they seem to have been given training or apprenticeships for a trade. the web site given {http//:www.hertsdirect.org/libsleisure/heritage1//HALS} Could be worth a call |

HALs the best place for all things associated with Hertfordshire. I've spent ages in that place finding out the history of our house. |
