Hello Everyone I'm new here and to the fascinating and ever so slightly frustrating world of genealogy ! I can find a death certificate for my grandmother, also a marriage one but I can not find any birth records for her.I have no idea where she was born though know she died in 1955 at the age of 70.Any ideas where to go next?
Regards Teresa

Where are you looking Teresa? Trust it's good old Freebmd! (Assuming we are talking England and Wales).

www.freebmd.org.uk

It would help if you had her father's name from her marriage cert.

If you want to post details, feel free and we'll have a look.

Crikey Jan that's amazing !! How did you do it ??? Thankyou so very much

brummiejan Report 20 Mar 2010 22:22

Well, I'd like to say it's total genius, but in fact it involved typing the name and birth year into the Ancestry search box!!

I think there are only a couple of possibilites but with so little to go on the marriage cert is a must.

Get it before 6th April as prices go up.

So Ancestry is the tool I need, because I can't find the second Daisy on the records here.

brummiejan Report 20 Mar 2010 22:27

If you want to look at census reports you do need either Ancestry or FindmyPast (FMP). Most people favour Ancestry I think, but all a matter of opinion.
They do a 14-day free trial, worth a look.
Forget about using this site to do these lookups, it's really not very good.

What year and area did you find her marriage in Teresa? I can't find a likely death for a Daisy S anything in 1955 aged 70.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 20 Mar 2010 22:53

I don't understand, Teresa, why you don't know her married name. You say you can find her death certificate. That must be in her married name?

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 20 Mar 2010 22:59

Not sure Teresa said that? She must know the marriage as she plans to send for the cert!

There are about 10 deaths of a Daisy S in 1955 - but you are right, none of them seem to be 70!!.

Teresa Report 20 Mar 2010 23:06

Her marriage was 1931 in Coventry and she died dec 1955 Watford.
Her married name was Simpson

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 20 Mar 2010 23:06

She said:
"I can find a death certificate for my grandmother, also a marriage one but I can not find any birth records for her."
So she must know her married name.

Teresa said she can find a marriage cert and a death cert.

Teresa can you please tell us who she married, and when/where and when/where she died.

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 20 Mar 2010 23:09

There she is!

Name: Daisy Simpson
Death Registration Month/Year: 1955
Age at death (estimated): 70
Registration district: Watford
Inferred County: Hertfordshire

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 20 Mar 2010 23:10

Madmeg, she knows all these things but can't pin down the birth.
I do think getting the marriage cert is the best idea don't you?
