His records, if they have survived, will be at the National Archives. For this period you need to know which regiment he was in to be able to find them, so it''s good that you know! The records aren't online though - you would have to go there or get someone to go for you or you could wait until the records for that time period appear on findmypast. The records won't give much personal detail although you should get year and place of birth and trade. They will give an outline of his service though. |

Details are very limited I'm afraid. Daughter, Ruth Harper was born in Tamil Nadu, India, on 29 January 1854 and Family Search gave me her parents names John and Charlotte (no maiden name I'm afraid). She appeared on the 1871 census as a boarder living in Norwich with my paternal gt-gt grandfather, Samuel Bailey. Sorry I can't be more help - she is the first person on my tree to be born outside Norwich! It's all been reasonably easy going till now! Thank you all for any help at all. Marilyn |

I have been informed that my gt-gt grandfather was a private in the above regiment, based in India. Could someone confirm the full title of the regiment please? Could it be King's Own Borderers? Many thanks, Marilyn |
