Locating Irish Ancestors Rourk Rourke

Do you have any idea how I can locate where they came from in Ireland - I have reached a real dead end.

I am trying to find James Rourk b.c. 1820 (Ireland) but I have reached a dead end as I don't know how to locate them in Ireland. .

He moved to Cumberland between 1820 and 1841, Does anyone know how I can trace him in Ireland?

His name later changed to Rourke and Rook.

Any help would be appreciated.

1881 - probably not much use but here is a Rork family from Ireland moved to Cumberland

Hi Elizabeth

Sorry don't know how to locate your Rourk family in Ireland. But I was curious to know if any of the family made there way to London as my grandmother's (Caroline Dunbar) first husband was a John Rourke (or O'Rourke). I have never found him with her on any census but they had three children Mary c.1899, Nellie c 1904 and Ronald c April 1912. Curiously she was stated as a widow on the 1911 census and none of the children are listed on the census. It has just got odder and odder. Could John Rourke be a relative?

Not as far as I am aware. My Grandparents came down to London from Newcastle but by that time our name had changed from: Rourk (in 1820)to Rourke to Rook (Death Cert 1875) to Rooke (on Birth Cert in 1890) !!!

Worth looking for similar patterns in the spelling. Will let you know if I discover anything.

Hi I too have Rourke Irish /Cumberland family .I have Longs who married Rourke? If you would like to contact me via genesreunited that would be good its quite complicated as two longs marry rourkes from different generations kathleen
