If her father isn't named on the marriage certificate there are probably 3 reasons

1. She was illegiimate...And acknowledged it.
2. She was estranged from or did not wish to acknowledge her father.
3. He had died when she was young and she really didn't know his name.

Admittingly the most likely is the first option so, if I was you, I would be looking at the poor law records for Tipton given she was born and married there.

If her mother had needed parish relief then it is more than likely the relieving officers would have done their best to see if they could get the reputed father's name so they could get him to contribute rather than the parish!

The relevant record office would be your first port of call to see what poor law records they hold.

Good luck
Chris

Whilst this Hannah is slightly too young the boundary between Staffordshire and Worcestershire does change at this point and Dudley and Tipton are very close. Do you have the marriage cert with her father's name?

Hi,
I have my gt gt grandma's wedding cert that has a line through father.
Her name is Hannah Henley, she married Joseph Ball 1847 Tipton Staffs, i think she was born 1825/6 according to the 1851 census and was born in Tipton Staffordshire.
I've tried to locate her on the 1841 census at the local library but not found her as yet.
Any idea's appreciated,
Many Thanks,
Jaine
