Just got my renewal notice and the price has doubled! I was paying £90 for Worldwide membership but now they want £180.

Would be interested to know what others are paying.

If you had Worldwide for just £90 then you must have had a real good deal.

I have just renewed Essentials @ £83.40.

A quick check on My Account says I could upgrade to Premium @ £107.40 or WorldWide @ £155.40

Sorry to butt in - what does premium offer?

Rose, that seems very strange, are you 100% sure it's genuine?

Hi Rose,

It also states for me £155.40 for Annual Worldwide Membership.

Premium give you access to additional records such as Parish Registers. I wasn't able to find anything useful that wasn't available elsewhere for free so I actually 'downsized' this time round

Others may have had more success. Problem is you don't know until you have paid the extra sub, then its too late.

Firstly make sure you need worldwide - do you have many ancestors born overseas? Secondly don't renew and wait for them to offer you a discount.

susiwong Report 30 Nov 2009 13:59

When my renewal came up I couldn't afford the extra premiums, so I just left it. After a few weeks I got an email from them offering me a 20% discount, so if I were you I would give it a few weeks, if you can wait that long lol.

I hope you're right, Sue. Mine expired last week and I'm waiting for the 20% off offer. However I'm going through withdrawal symptoms, don't know if I'll make it.

Mine run out last week and have not yet herd a word from Ancestry, I rang them and asked about the 25% that can be got at Quidco and if they would offer that over the phone to me but was told “No” but he could offer me 10% over the phone.

Quidco looks a bit suspect to me, so not really sure what to do.

Thanks everyone,

I'm certain it's a genuine email. I think I first joined in 2006 and the renewal has always come through at the same rate.

I do have some ancestors born overseas and I like having Worldwide access to help others on here.

I have thought about cancelling to see what they can offer. I will try and contact them and see what they say.

Ken,
I got the 25% discount off my renewal from quidco and it is genuine. You can get all sorts of discounts with them and every so often they put the money in your account.
I think you'll find they are genuine. I first heard of them through Martin Lewis's website moneysavingexpert.com newsletter and you get some really good tips from them!

Many GR members have mentioned using Quidco to get Ancestry

They were running a half price special back in June so I think I will cancel and see what they can offer. Here are the prices from then:

essentials £41.70/year*
Normally £83.40

premium £53.70/year*
Normally £107.40

worldwide £77.70/year*
Normally £155.40

Quidco is very genuine :) Ive had nearly a thousand quid in cash back from them in the last 3 years. HOWEVER, you are supposed to be a first time subber to ancestry to get the 25% cashback. You can overcome that by using a different email addy apparently.

Ive just got my 20% off after doing without for 6 weeks. I got the premium for £85 I think. I also spent tesco vouchers on a ftm program for £15 vouchers, which gave me another 6 months access for zilcho.

I got the following email from ancestry - there is no code or anything, so Im guessing anyone who has let their membership lapse a few weeks could ring and get 20% discount:

We've even extended our offer of a 20% discount* if you re-open your files by giving us a call soon. So you've still got time to enjoy another year of membership for less!. Just call 0800 345 7928 and our friendly staff will have you back on the trail of your

family history, before it goes totally cold.

Thank you Cathy, I think I will try and wait just a bit longer before I decide to use “Quidco” and see if Ancestry offers me anything better. It’s very hard to have to keep waiting though I can’t seem to be able to get on with anything, we don’t realize how good something is until we don’t have it any longer.

“Now where have I heard that before?”

Ken, have you not read the other replies?

Cathy

Cathy Report 1 Dec 2009 16:16

Hi Heather,
I wondered if it would only be new customers who got the 25% off too, so I sent a query to quidco and got this reply...........

Adele wrote 26 Jun 09 at 16:40
Hi Cathy,

I have now had clarification from the merchant and I can confirm that Ancestry pays cashback for both new and existing customers.

I hope this clarifies matters and I will now close this ticket but if you wish to contact us regarding another matter then please raise another Help ticket.

Kind regards,

Adele

Thank you Heather, yes I have read all reply’s but on ringing Ancestry they still only offered 10%, I told them of the 20% that had been offered to others but was still only offered 10, I will try again next week and hopefully get some one else other than “David” to talk to.

I think it does depend on who you talk to. at Ancestry. Why not go with the suggestions and use quidco instead
