Hi all
sorry to drag this one back up again but i really am stuck :-(

my grandmother Edna Coles born 1921 died 1958

well i cant find her parents marriage.....William and Caroline Coles,
on Edna's birth cert it states Caroline Coles formally Coles and i have checked with registry office that this was not an error.
Any suggestions on where to go from here?
thanks
Nicola

Does William have any middle initials

Perhaps they did not marry in England

Sometimes when the mmn and the child's name is the same then the child was illegitimate
Does her birth cert name her dad as William Coles

Have you tried variant spellings - Colls, Coals, Coales etc? Suppose it is possible that - if they happened to have the same surname - they might not have seen a point in marrying, but you never know.

Just a wild bit of straw clutching but Ive found women previously married to the new husbands rellie and hence same surname.

There looks to be a Caroline and William Cole in Bristol in 1911. Take a look and see if the occupation matches.

Hi all
Yes indeed Bristol :-)

occupation greengrocer

Rose

thanks for that ....do you think maybe the s is missing from Williams name as it's def Coles on the birth cert?
and i don't have access to 1911 census but the address on the birth cert is 4 Whitehouse St, Bedminster Bristol.
could you tell me if it gives an address on the 1911 census as i know Bedminster well.
many thanks for your help

I would guess that William and Caroline and cousins of some sort.

I have at least two examples of that sort of marriage in my tree.

Nicola

Nicola Report 30 Nov 2009 14:25

Just been talking to a family member who is sure William & Caroline had at least 4 other children....

Hmmmmm lol
can you see why this is taking me round in circles and driving me mad :-(

all i actually have is Edna's birth cert where both parents are clearly Coles
and also Edna's marriage cert where her father is William Coles

and yet cant seem to find either parent............i must be missing something
