Hi Kathleen I have looked in the census, but it's difficult to know if you are looking at the right William James if you don't know any names of the siblings or parents. That is why I would like to trace the info back from my grandfather's birth certificate and work backwards. I also don't think they were in the UK during the 1901 census. Regards Peter

Have you looked for your great grandparents in the census records or do you want to find more up to date information about them?

Hi Kathleen It is possible that she could have been a neighbour. Amelia is listed on my grandfather's birth certificate. I was hoping that I would find more information regarding my great grandparents. Thanks Peter

I think a lot of people who delivered babies at that time were just neighbours who "helped out" with the delivery rather than being qualified midwives. I wouldn't have thought they kept records but I could be wrong.
Amelia Boston was still in the Aston district of Birmingham in the 1911 census.
Can I ask how you know she delivered your grandfather as I wouldn't have thought she would be named on the birth certificate? What information are you hoping to find from the midwife's records?

Does anyone know if the midwives kept records of the births they attended to and if so where can one access these records. The midwife I'm interested in is Amelia Boston and she delivered my grandfather and his twin brother at 403 Longacre Av, Birmingham in 1907.
