Gloria ..I have checked through the 1881 Census Glam. for Evan David..and there are quite a few....the oldest being 82 yrs...Ag.Lab....
However I found a Wm David 59yrs Farmer with family and he has a son Evan ( dont they all) but also a daughter named Gwenlilian...same name as Leah and Edwards daughter...couldnt find another Gwenlilian in any other Davies family...wonder if he is related in any way...Unfortunately I am not familiar with Welsh places names so cannot judge if that is close to the area you are looking ?Llanwyno

Gloria
If you put father Evan as a checking point then if it's not the correct one you will only be charged £3.
Alternatively if you write to Cardiff giving name of father and enclose cheque if they can't find it they won't charge.
I usually phone the local office first and they will tell you what to do.
I have always found them helpful

I think I'll send for the Birth certificate I have found for Leah David 1841 sep if it comes back, and her father is Evan and is Agricultural Laborer it must be her.
now to try and find her in 1851 census.

Von Report 16 Oct 2009 20:42

Gloria
You're welcome. Lets hope it's her.
Both my great grannies were Mary Davies, my great, great grannie was Rachel David but death registration was for Davies so I know how difficult it can be.
Fingers crossed

thank you thank you ha ha.
that is where she was at time of marriage, so to find her on earlier census and to try and find a birth cert, do I look for lea David?

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 16 Oct 2009 20:27

Gloria.....If you can find an Evan...farm Lab. in the area on the 1861 Census then Leah (or ? another name ) should be living with her parents...Census was March/April '61 and she didnt marry until after Census if I am correct.

Gloria

Gloria Report 16 Oct 2009 20:15

yes it was her first marriage it Say's she was a spinster.

thanks corrinne

Could this be her?

David Leah Cardiff 26 347

My Davies family used the name David before they became Davies. Took me ages to find them in 1841.
There is a Lea David in 1861census born in Llantrisant working as a servant.
I don't have access to the 1851census but maybe someone could check it out for you.
You could try contacting the Cardiff Register office and ask them if they can find her.Address
The Register Office, 48 Park Place, Cardiff, CF10 3LU.
Tel: 029 2087 1690. Fax: 029 2037 1109.
E-mail: [email protected].
I had to resort to local register offices for my Davies family.

Gloria Report 16 Oct 2009 19:32

Thank you eringobragh1916 for all your help my trouble is there are a lot of Evan and Davies about, I would just love to find Leah's Birth but don't know what to do now.

thank you.

Eringobragh1916 Report 16 Oct 2009 19:23

Gloria ...Ag.lab. is a farm laborer..not a farmer .
I thought the address from leah's Mc may help pick up Evan somwhere...Nothing of any use...The area of Peterston Super Montem and Llanharan are about one and the same ..plenty of Davies around but no Evan....you could get someone (unless you have them) to check earlier Census for Evan

Hi Gloria

Yes, Ag Lab could be farmer. If he actually owned (unlikely) or rented a farm, it often says how many acres and mentions employees. Otherwise he probably worked on someone else's farm or possible had a few animals himself.
