Gloria Report 16 Oct 2009 17:21

For a long time now i have been trying to find my gt gt grandmother's birth. "you kind people have tried helping me". Her name is Leah Davies birth 1841 Llanharan Glamorgan Wales, well I am not having much success so thought i would have a search done, i wrote to Glamorgan Records office and gave them all the information I have.Well this morning i received a letter back .Informing me they have made a search of the General Register office index of births in England and Wales and unfortunatley there is no Birth registered in Glamorgan for a Leah Davies in 1842 the closest entry we were able to find was for Leah Davies in 1843 in Llanelli.
we then made a search of the Glamorgan Family History Society's index to Baptisms churches and chapels in Glamorgan after 1837 and unfortunately Leah Davies does not appear on the index.
Finally we have also searched the census for 1851 and 1861 and been unable to find Leah Davies that matches the information provided.

I definitely think my gt gt granmother was born in Glamorgan not Llanelli.
on 1911 census and others after her Marriage Place of birth LLanharan Glamorgan.

any help please on what to do now .

Thank you

You might just have to accept that you will never find it. Maybe she wasn't baptised and it doesn't appear that her birth was registered.

If it is her parents names that you are trying to find, can you find a birth for one of her siblings and order that cert instead?

I've found a Leah Davies on Ancestry married to Edward and born in Llanharan. Is this the Leah you're looking for, if so Davies was her married name so won't show in the birth indexes under that name, do you have her maiden name?

Gloria ....What was her address from her MC...?

Gloria

Gloria Report 16 Oct 2009 18:32

I don't know jim sorry I am only going by census after Marriage that sounds promising Jim but why on everything else would she call herself Leah and on 1911 census where they filled them in them selfs so I would thought less mistakes.
her residence at time of Marriage was peterstone super montem.

could Leah be short for Elizabeth ?

thank you all for helping me most appreciated

On marriage certificate of Leah her father's occupation was
Agricultural labourer, could that be Farmer.?

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 16 Oct 2009 19:05

Hi Gloria

Yes, Ag Lab could be farmer. If he actually owned (unlikely) or rented a farm, it often says how many acres and mentions employees. Otherwise he probably worked on someone else's farm or possible had a few animals himself.

Eringobragh1916 Report 16 Oct 2009 19:23

Gloria ...Ag.lab. is a farm laborer..not a farmer .
I thought the address from leah's Mc may help pick up Evan somwhere...Nothing of any use...The area of Peterston Super Montem and Llanharan are about one and the same ..plenty of Davies around but no Evan....you could get someone (unless you have them) to check earlier Census for Evan

David Leah Cardiff 26 347

My Davies family used the name David before they became Davies. Took me ages to find them in 1841.
There is a Lea David in 1861census born in Llantrisant working as a servant.
I don't have access to the 1851census but maybe someone could check it out for you.
You could try contacting the Cardiff Register office and ask them if they can find her.Address
The Register Office, 48 Park Place, Cardiff, CF10 3LU.
Tel: 029 2087 1690. Fax: 029 2037 1109.
E-mail: [email protected].
I had to resort to local register offices for my Davies family.
