That's what you pay, I guess, for getting 1911 online so quickly. Then they expect us to do their proofreading, encourage it in fact. I reckon we should get free credits for every bungle we sort out. |

I found exactly the same with FreeBMD. I reported a John James COOK should be John Jones COOK but they said they couldn't change it as it looked like James to the transcriber on the index. It is Jones; clear as crystal, on the index. |

My great grandfather is living on his 'own manes'. Clear enough 'own means' on the image. |

Malcolm you are so right. Even before I signed up for the sub I looked at a few and almost all were wrong in some way. Terribly shoddy work. |

Just paid for my 1911 sub with FMP but the transcribing is awful. Have checked about 30 records and at least 20 have errors. Even when the signature clarifies the family name the transcribers are making a stab at it and indexing them under bizarre names you would never find. My G-father is shown as a "plateror" when it clearly says "Plasterer"! Be aware when you get no results, they may be mis-transcibed & you need to search another way! Such a deterioration from the other census results. |
