Birth of a child before Marriage

My great great grandparents had two children before they married. On the birth certs. the children were registered in their father's name, and the mother gave her surname as that of her "husband" nee "maiden name". |

Yes, they would. Lots of my ancestors had children before marriage and then went on to marry in church. |

Oh, I'm sure they would be allowed to marry in the parish church. If not, I think a lot of my ancestors would never have married. |
