Hi my mum has been looking into her fathers side of the family who were originally from Scotland, Her father was Alexander Robert Monteith....she sent for his birth cert (as she only saw him about 4 times in his life)as she had no idea what his parents names were....she now knows that Alex's dad was also Alexander Fleming Monteith, who she found on the 1901 census aged 8, with parents James Monteith and Maggie, she then found a marriage for James and Maggie Niven for 1880 twenty sixth Octoberin the Burgh of Edinburgh.James is a private in the 71st Highlanders and is aged 26, and is in the castle on the 1881 census, we found a possible Maggie as a lodger in the Oliphant householdwhich was 56 Bristo Street....our problem is we cannot find them in 1891, this is where the real detective work comes in .....can anyone help please, thank you in advance Donna. |
