Oh, it does depend on whether you end up with a copy of the original or the priest's copy, and it is usually the latter, so it will be what the priest wrote. The absence of the X should mean that he could sign his own name, but the writing there is not his own signature. |

Dont forget unless you have seen the original certificate in the parish registers, you probably wont be viewing your relatives signatures anyway, they will be copies from the transcribed records that were sent to the GRO. |

thanks margaret. I have checked the marriage certificate. no cross next to the name like all the rest and the name is definalty written by the priest,, you can tell its not a signature just the name as written on the marriage certificate itself! |
