I want to thank you all for your help and time and to apologise for accidently deleting the first thread on Patrick and Stephen Murray. I'm new to this side of GU and made a complete pigs ear of it. However, on the positive side I've now started to get it sorted and with all your help will get there in the end. Have sent for Patrick Murr and Sarah Daisy's marriage certificate which shoud help but still havent located Stephens wherabouts in 1911. Thank you all again

Carol.....Why dont you see if you can locate Patrick and Stephens Attestation Papers...Origens Net have them going back to the 1700s however you will need to pay per veiw....
I would imagine you would be needing to look under Donegal (Prince of Wales Own) Militia not the RIR (they did not merge until 1922)..It may just clear up your confusion....

Carol, what happened to your other thread with all the info on Patrick & Stephen?

When they were found at the Citadel, Dover, they were both recorded as born in Ireland.

Sometimes people don't write the truth on official forms (horrors!!) or maybe he misunderstood, etc, etc.

ErinGo Bragh I just cant get my head round it....I thought I'd found that they were born in Ireland, which I had been told by my late father, now after seeing the 1911 census it appears that Patrick was born in Battersea.. This is sooooo frustrating

RG14 – this is the reference for household schedules. RG refers to the Registrar General series of records held by The National Archives (TNA).

RG78 – is the reference for the enumerators’ summary books.

PN – is the piece number within RG14 or RG78.

RD – is the Registration District number.

SD – is the Registration Sub District number.

ED – is the Enumeration District number.

SN – is the Schedule Number within RG14.

Carol...What has happened to your previous thread regarding the Murrays...Was that info.incorrect....?

What makes you sure that the 1911 you have found is right?

Do you have information of a marriage & children?

Perhaps if you could post what you have found for him in 1911, someone may be able to help.

I've now located the family of Patrick Murray on the 1911 census and it says Patrick was born in Battersea London, Could he possibly have put this on the census return falsly or do you think I may have been on the wrong track with the Murray brothers in the 1901 returns from Dover.

I know for certain the 1911 family is right, I also know that both brothers were in the army..........help!!!!!

If you can locate them on the 1911 and buy credits to view the image, you may be lucky enough to find that they have stated the actual location they were born in (as opposed to just Ireland) which would give you a start.

I found the birth place of my gg grandfather in this way.

i have two brothers Patrick b1871 and Stephen b 1877 Murray both militiamen stationed at the Citadel Barracks Dover in the 1901 census. I know that both died of natural causes so cant find any info from ww1 deaths. They were born in Ireland. How can I find out about their parentage and addresses in Ireland please.
