Can anyone help with any advice. I have been trying to trace any information/records on my great Aunt, who was a nurse. She started her training in 1901, and I have contacted the BNA and because she started her probationary training before the Compulsory Registration of Nurses Act of 1919, they have no record of her. I also contacted the BMA, the Stratford Archives, The Royal London Hospital Archives, The National Archives, I am just drawing blanks. I dont know where to go from here. I know she was in nursing all her life, and I believe she became a Matron, and retired about 1950. Any advice would be great. Thanks. |

Have you tried the Royal College of Nursing. Maybe they can help. |

the records office local to the hospital she was working at should have staff register, our local office has and i found my grandmother on the list she left nursing in the early 60's. |

Thank you for your replies. I am new to the tips board, and had a bit of trouble getting back to it. |

Presumably Nursing Record and Hospital World is an old journal that has ceased publication and/or merged with British Nursing Journal |

If you google "hospital plaistow london" the first result will give you the nearest hospitals to Plaistow. There is one missing though, Queen Mary's which closed in the eighties. Their records are held at |

I`ll try these publications, see if I get anywhere. I have seen about the Wellcome Library in other sites I have looked at, but haven`t got anywhere. Never thought about an info block on them. Thanks. |
