hello,
I have just started my tree and have found an entry for my relatives in the 1901 cencuss... The head of the family was 50 years of age. I have gone backwards in the previous years censsors to find him and nothing?? what am I doing wrong??

Help.
His name was sydney roberts born 1851 in goldcliffe monmothshire. Wife Elizabeth Roberts born 1853.. she was 48 in the 1901 censsis.##help!!

Yes osborne roberts is my great great great grandfather and sydney was the brother.. i think,, still getting my head around it all!

p.s and just to add to the confusion ii have sydney the son(1877) and then sydney the father born 1851. Its the father I cannot find? in the records. only 1901 when he was 50?,

Who was sydney roberts dad?? He was born in goldcliffes monmouthshire,, but no records of anything before 1901?? for any of the family??

As Sydney b 1851 was illegitimate (see baptism record above) and the priest did not mention his father I think that will be one of the great unknowns!

I can't find a Sydney b1877 in either birth reg or 1881 except for Sydney Walter Roberts b Newport son of Walter & Jess

just to add to it.. sydney had a sister, mary ann roberts.. could this have been her illgitimate son?? sidney?
ahahah now i am seeing the spelling!! right,, i shall go back and see :)

so sidney was the father not sydney.

If you use the site I gave you and search for Roberts you will found all the baptisms of Sydney & Elizabeth's children

the spellings often vary depending on who was writing them down as education was limited so he could be either Sydney or Sidney on any of the records

the children were Osborne, William, Herbert, Anna Amelia, Sydney JAmes, Martha, Marian, Mary Jane

I'll let you have the fun of looking up the dates for yourself

you will also find the baptisms of Osborne's children

hey!! i found my sidney.. yes the name was spelt wrong and he had moved at the age of 20 to be as stone masion apprentice. In 1901 he was a stone mason so its a good link :) thank you so much for the tips..

now i got to go back and find the son sidney.. the son sydney? sidney? was 14 in the 1901 census and was lliving with sydney in the cottage in goldcliffee.. i losing track now of his birthdate!!
brains gone dead.. 1877?? is it.

oooooooooo the plot is thickerning.. the link you sent me.. i cant seem to get anything coming up for roberts? am i doing something wrong?? I though the dates of the children were spread apart!! I though must have been more, They normaly had 1 a year. They also had twins :))
