Sorry Elizabeth - assume you mean Watford Hertfordshire which I know absolutely nothing about. As the details would be different to this thread it would be best to start a new one for Robinette so that someone else can help you.

The monmouthshire site I gave you as far as I know is unique but that are a few 'online parish clerks' sites which have church records coverage - just use google to find if the county you want is included.

glad you managed to work out the link. It's a pity the marriages are not there (yet) but it is a great site. I have found quite a bit about my own family on there (Llanfoist) after someone else told me about the site. As you say it is much more fun finding things out for yourself once someone has pointed you in a certain direction. We all learn about other sites from people with more local knowledge so keep asking when you are stuck.
good hunting

Battenburg Report 5 Aug 2009 23:03

Mary Ann Roberts mother of Sidney 1851 Goldcliff could possibly have married.

You may need to look on the 1861 census for Sidney ( no surname) born c1851 Goldcliff and see if his mother is Mary/Mary Ann married.

Sidney could be under his step fathers name.
Sorry I cant check myself

Sidney b1851 baptism record is on page 1 of this thread but does not show any detail about his mother other than her name. Unless she can be found with Sidney in 1861 (I do not have access to details but cannot see them on a name search) we can only guess not prove that the only Mary Ann Roberts baptised in Goldcliff was baptised 1838 d of John & Mary.
The only other thing I can suggest is that you look for Martha b 1839 d of Lot & Amelia in the 1851 & 61 census and see if they are with them as the names are similar. Once you have found someone who lives in Goldcliff you could try trawling through the pages from there. Note - Sidney will not be on the 1851 census as he was probably born after the census was taken

Will have to sign off now until Friday or Saturday. Will look to see if you need more help then

You would be better using the site I gave you and looking up the baptisms for the years of birth. Children were usually baptised quite quickly after birth. It also saves miscalculations. You can find the exact date of the baptisms from the site but the correct yob's you want are:

Osborne 1873
William 1876 ( you had not listed this one)
Thomas 18178
Hertbert 1881 (NOT 1871)
Anna Amelia 1884 (mistranscribed as Hannah on the 1891 census)
Sydney James 1887
Martha 1889 - twin
Marian 1889 - twin
Mary Jane 1891

Thanks again for the inforamtion and getting in format i can understand. I now have the following children for sidney b1851

Herbert Roberts 1871
Osborne Roberts 1873-1951
Hannah Roberts 1875
Sydney Roberts 1887
Marian Roberts 1888
martha Eoberts 1888
Mary Roberts 1889.

Now I have tried to find sidney 1851 in the 1850 census. The onlyone i find is a syney born in 1952 and is a pauper but is living with his mumas a pauper in someone else house. however the birthplace says bridport??? and not goldcliffe?? sooooooo i am guessing the wrong one.

You say that you have a baptism record o fsidney in 1851and his mum was mary roberts. Do we now her age?? and were she was born???

Thanks again for the help... i am learning sslow but sure. if sidney 1851 is illigitamate then i need to follow the mums line?? is that what is normal??

thanks again liz

to summarise a bit the info you have already been given

Sydney Roberts baptised 1851 illegitimate son of Mary Ann Roberts

Sidney married Elizabeth (?probably Elizabeth Eveson mar qtr 1873)

1st son Osborne b 1873 - son of Sydney b1851 & brother of Sydney James b 1887 & sister of Marian

6th child Sydney James b 1887 (NOT 1877 1901 - age 14 = 1887)

the other child you mention Marian (rather than Mary Ann) was b 1889 - the 8th child

you have been given the family census showing children for 1881 & 1891 & 1911 (Mary Jane has been transcribed as Mary James)

The twins were Martha & Marian

Elizabeth Report 5 Aug 2009 00:38

just to clarify.. are we saying tghat sidney 1851 is illegitamate ?? I know his wife was called elizabeth ann roberts so could it have been her son? sidney 1877 who was not the son of sidney 1851??

am i making any sense??

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 5 Aug 2009 00:30

time for sleep - I will be back tomorrow

When you use the link I gave you - scroll down until you find Goldcliff - click on the name and then on the baptism years - do the search from that point - did not find any twins in that gereration

You have been given quite a lot of info by various people and it would be worth making some notes before trying to go further to get things clearer in your mind
eg Sidney age 14 in 1901 means b 1887 as shown by the baptism not 1877

missed out Thomas in the list and did not find Hannah
